2011 Annual Report

Program Background

Recent research reveals that Hispanic or Latino leaders reach middle management faster than other groups but struggle to make the transition to executive positions. In fact, despite being the fastest growing talent pool in the U.S., Hispanics represent a tiny fraction of “C-level” executives in corporate America. This represents a fundamental problem not only for corporations seeking to serve the fast-growing Hispanic market, but also for our entire country’s economic prosperity as a critical and valuable talent segment remains untapped for key leadership positions. The Corporate Executive Development Program (CEDP) seeks to address this issue by accelerating the careers of high potential Hispanic managers and executives through an educational experience focused on sustained behavior change that provides knowledge, skills and tools for maximizing strategic relationships within and outside their corporations. The program will also develop a comprehensive network of Hispanic executives by supporting ongoing coaching and mentorship of NHCC CEDP graduates.

“The NHCC Corporate Executive Development Program has been quite the experience thus far.  It is clear that the NHCC and SMU - Cox Executive Education are committed to investing in the growth of Hispanic leaders throughout the country.  The material covered is comprehensive and incorporates the Hispanic culture's impact on successful leadership in the corporate world.  The facilitators and executive advisors provide incredible direction and support.  Most importantly, my peers in the program are quite impressive and I am looking forward to building an invaluable network; a network that will consist of current and future leaders in corporations around the world”.

Leadership Development Program

The NHCC Corporate Executive Development Program (NHCC-CEDP), offered by the National Hispanic Corporate Council (NHCC) in partnership with Southern Methodist University (SMU) Cox Executive Education, is an innovative program designed for high-potential mid-level Hispanic managers in Fortune 1000 companies. This program will provide selected high performing participants with the knowledge, skills and tools to accelerate their development into the executive ranks for increasing optimal business performance. The NHCC-CEDP is guided by a distinguished advisory board of executives from nationally recognized organizations and exceptional faculty who are dedicated to advancing Hispanic managers in Corporate America into executive positions. The program provides a comprehensive leadership development experience over the course of 9 months. Participants will experience the program as a class and will be supported by faculty, executive mentors and program advisors.

Who Should Attend

The profile of a participant in the NHCC-CEDP is a high-potential Hispanic employee in mid-level management who has shown capability to ascend into an executive position. The selected employee should have a proven track record of success at the current level. Those who sponsor participants are executives responsible for developing human resources within their organizations and visionaries who are investing to meet the needs of emerging and global markets.

“I want you to know that as it relates to the program, it has exceeded any expectation I had of it, it is obvious that there was a lot of work put into it on the part of the organizers, the teaching staff and the executive leaders.  The topics have been relevant and very rich in substance; the manner in which the topics have made me think and view various behaviors is excellent, I have learned a lot about what type of image I want to convey and how I want to be viewed by others.  I have learned about the importance of having a brand.”

As a leader, I’m always seeking ways to improve employee engagement through more purposeful and meaningful interactions with co-workers and direct reports. This session has armed me with the tools and information necessary to be a more effective leader. I look forward to practicing what I’ve learned and sharing the information with others”.
