I attribute much of my success working with the Hispanic Market to the knowledge gained and relationships built through the National Hispanic Corporate Council (NHCC).
In 1997, as a newly hired national segment manager of Hispanic marketing for Bank One, NHCC was an excellent resource for me to cultivate working relationships with marketing peers in a number of different industries. Through those relationships, I was able to learn industry best practices and cutting-edge trends that allowed me to add tremendous value to my corporation in a relatively short period of time. Building on an established foundation, I was able to apply this knowledge to further strengthen Bank One’s competitive position. As a result, in 2000, Bank One was recognized in the Datamonitor Study: Best Practices in Marketing Financial Services to Ethnic Groups in the U.S. Bank One was ranked second nationally, behind Allstate Insurance, among financial services companies and differentiated itself among its competitors by adhering to a strict segmentation process.
Having been an active member these past ten years, NHCC continues to add value to my corporation (Sprint Nextel) by providing leading-edge content at member meetings, benchmarking best practices at member corporations, and fostering a holistic approach to the Hispanic market opportunity through four key disciplines: marketing, community relations, human resources and supplier diversity. Above all, the core value NHCC provides is access to other subject matter experts, representing multiple disciplines, and working in a number of different industries. Through this network, I am able to stay informed about trends, opportunities and threats that might impact my corporation.
Personally, having participated on the Board of Directors and having led as Chairman of the organization has helped me to further develop my leadership abilities, deepen my understanding of the operations of non-profit organizations and strengthen my core competencies through informal mentor relationships. I have cultivated an exceptional network of marketing, procurement, community relations and diversity professionals dedicated to meeting the unique needs of the Hispanic community. I have leveraged these relationships on a consultative level as well as collaboratively, to build partnership opportunities. In addition, I have expanded my career opportunities through exposure to this organization. I have moved from a marketing role, singularly focused on the Hispanic market, to a broader role that leverages the corporation’s outreach efforts to minority and women in the four key disciplines through corporate social responsibility.
I recommend NHCC to corporations who have just begun to attract the Hispanic market and to corporations with mature programs. Comprised of Fortune 1,000 corporations, NHCC is uniquely positioned as the premier resource to corporations seeking to maximize on the Hispanic market opportunity. Ultimately, NHCC is a group of dedicated corporate professionals helping their respective corporations succeed in the Hispanic marketplace.
